U.S. Ambassador Anthony Wayne and Mexico State Governor Avila Discuss the Strong U.S.-Mexico Relationship
Mexico City, February 16, 2012 – U.S. Ambassador Anthony Wayne and Mexico State Governor Eruviel Avila met today to exchange views on a range of issues and on the usefulness of working with the full range of institutions and political parties to ensure a strong bilateral relationship.
The Ambassador congratulated the Governor on his efforts to expand educational opportunities and attract new investment to Mexico State as well as his focus on strengthening law enforcement and justice institutions. “I am very impressed with what Mexico State has accomplished in implementing judicial reform. I understand it has fully implemented judicial reform in most of its judicial districts, and it has done an excellent job in training judicial employees,” Ambassador Wayne said. “I very much appreciate the opportunity to get the governor’s views on the many issues facing our two countries and on the prospect for enhanced cooperation in promoting economic opportunities for U.S. companies, and youth and academic exchanges . It is very important for my work here to maintain an ongoing dialogue and open communication with state governors.”
Recent Embassy cooperation with the State of Mexico includes workshops in Toluca with state officials from the offices of Education, Tourism and Social Development, and municipal leaders regarding assistance for victims of trafficking in persons. We are also pleased to have members of our Embassy community living in the State of Mexico.
