U.S. and Mexican Officials Sign Letter of Intent to Share $6 Million in Forfeited Assets to Combat Financial Infrastructure of Organized Crime
Washington, March 26, 2010 – U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and Mexican Attorney General Marisela Morales Ibáñez today signed a letter of intent for the United States to share approximately $6 million in forfeited funds with the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic of Mexico (PGR) to support Mexican efforts to combat the financial infrastructure of organized criminal groups and to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries in forfeiture matters.

U.S. Ambassador Discusses Public-Private Partnerships and Other Initiatives with ABM
Mexico City, March 26, 2012 – Ambassador Anthony Wayne today met with the Mexican Banking Association (ABM) President Jaime Ruiz Sacristán and the ABM’s Board of Directors to discuss Mexico’s presidency of the G20, the sound policies which have led to Mexico’s well capitalized banking sector, and entry points for U.S. companies into the Mexican market, in addition to praising the ABM’s support for Embassy youth exchange programs and other educational opportunities.

Trilateral Announcement Between Mexico, the United States, and Canada on Nuclear Security
At the March 2012 Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul, South Korea, the Governments of Mexico, the United States, and Canada announced the completion of an important joint nuclear security project to convert the fuel in Mexico’s research reactor from highly enriched uranium (HEU) to low enriched uranium (LEU). The project was initiated at the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, D.C. in April 2010, and was carried out by the three countries, working closely with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Treasury targets Zambada Drug Trafficking Organization
Washington, March 6, 2012 – The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) today announced the designation of a key Sinaloa Cartel operative, Jesus Reynaldo Zambada Garcia, as well as two companies in Mexico, for their ties to Sinaloa drug lord Ismael Zambada Garcia. Today’s action, pursuant to the Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act (Kingpin Act), prohibits U.S. persons from conducting financial or commercial transactions with the designated individual and entities, and also freezes any assets they may have under U.S. jurisdiction.
