Ambassador Anthony Wayne calls on Senate President Jose Gonzalez Morfin

Mexico City, October 20, 2011 – As part of his ongoing series of introductory calls on leaders from the full range of institutions and political parties, U.S. Ambassador Anthony Wayne called today on Senate President Jose Gonzalez Morfin.

The Ambassador appreciated the opportunity to discuss the broad array of bilateral issues facing our two countries with Gonzalez Morfin and to learn more about the role and agenda of the Senate.  Ambassador Wayne noted, “In both the U.S. and Mexico, the legislative branch plays a key role in the formulation of national priorities and the conduct of international relations.  Both countries and our bilateral relationship have benefited from the diverse perspectives and balance of power that our respective legislatures bring to our democratic systems.  I greatly appreciate President Gonzalez’s openness about his legislative priorities, and I look forward to fluid and open dialogue with him and his fellow legislators on the broad range of issues in our bilateral relations.”  Senate President Gonzalez and Ambassador Wayne agreed on the importance of regular exchanges between Mexican and U.S. legislators.  They agreed to work together to encourage more legislator-to-legislator dialogue.
