Mexico City, December 5, 2011-- U.S. Ambassador Anthony Wayne today met with Guanajuato Governor Juan Manuel Oliva Ramirez at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City. The Ambassador and Governor used the opportunity to discuss the broad array of shared interests of our two countries and the Ambassador appreciated the opportunity to learn more about the issues most prevalent in the state of Guanajuato. Ambassador Wayne noted, “I greatly appreciate Governor Oliva’s openness about his priorities for the state of Guanajuato, and I look forward to fluid and open dialogue with him on the broad range of issues in our bilateral relations.” Governor Oliva and Ambassador Wayne agreed on the importance of strengthening education, maintaining safe and secure neighborhoods and attracting economic development in Guanajuato. They agreed to work together to encourage more exchanges between the state’s leadership and the United States. The Ambassador also accepted the Governor’s invitation to visit Guanajuato in 2012.
The Ambassador has noted the important role that state governments play in the formulation of national priorities in a democracy such as Mexico’s and has therefore made it a point to engage with the leaders of Mexico’s state governments on issues of mutual interest.
