Ambassador Wayne and Secretary Osorio Chong Discuss Enhanced Cooperation
Mexico, D.F., December 12, 2012 — As part of his ongoing courtesy calls with members of President Enrique Pena Nieto’s cabinet, U.S. Ambassador Anthony Wayne today met with Secretary of Government Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong to discuss the strong cooperation between Mexico and the United States on a variety of fronts including border and migration issues, public security, and further cooperation.
Ambassador Wayne and Secretary Osorio Chong discussed the upcoming visit by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, public safety in the border region, migration management and other matters. Secretary Napolitano will travel to Mexico on 12/13 with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director John Morton, CBP Deputy Commissioner Aguilar, and Assistant Secretary for International Affairs Alan Bersin to meet with members of President Enrique Peña Nieto’s cabinet to discuss bi-national efforts to facilitate legitimate trade and travel, enhance information sharing and continue efforts to ensure a more safe, secure and resilient global supply chain.
Ambassador Wayne and Secretary Osorio Chong also discussed continuing Mérida Initiative coordination and cooperation. “We look forward to working closely and effectively with Secretary Osorio Chong and his team,” said Ambassador Wayne.
