Canines Trained Under Merida Initiative Help Mexican Officials Find $2.4 Million Hidden in Phone Cable
Mexico City, June 29, 2011 — A trained canine provided to the Government of Mexico under the Merida Initiative was instrumental in helping Mexican officials seize $2.4 million in cash. On June 16th, Mexican customs inspectors found more than $2.4 million in cash rolled up and stuffed into spools of telephone cable headed for Venezuela. A trained dog alerted his handler to the suspicious contents of the spools at the Mexico City airport.

On May 18, 2011, in Mexico City, the United States and Mexico participated in the second annual meeting of the U.S.-Mexico Framework on Clean Energy and Climate Change.
