During a breakfast meeting with the American Chamber of Commerce
Mexico City, October 20, 2011 – During a breakfast meeting with the American Chamber of Commerce today, U.S. Ambassador Anthony Wayne discussed the high priority the U.S. Embassy places on economic issues in the U.S.-Mexican relationship and expressed his pleasure to serve as honorary president of the group. The meeting is also part of Ambassador Wayne’s consultations with U.S. and Mexican business leaders throughout the country.
Ambassador Wayne communicated his support for the American Chamber as a partner with the Embassy to achieve trade growth, noting, “American Chambers of Commerce are important to the work of Embassies around the world. As I make the various courtesy calls with Ministers and visit our consulates around Mexico, I can’t help but be humbled by how the United States and Mexico are so connected in so many ways. I appreciate the work you, the members of the AmCham, do to keep those products and services moving across the border everyday by train, air, sea and soon by truck! With over a million people and a billion in goods crossing every day, this is a relationship that can only grow stronger.”
On October 19 Ambassador Wayne met with the Consejo Coordinador Empresarial (CCE), where he discussed the important commercial and economic agenda shared by Mexico and the United States with key leaders of Mexico’s business association. During the discussion, the Ambassador noted strong support for Mexico’s upcoming Presidency of the G20, including President Calderon’s efforts to make financial inclusion a centerpiece of Mexico’s G20 Presidency. The Ambassador emphasized the need to support innovation and entrepreneurship, including steps that support the development of small and medium enterprises, as we all work to improve the competitiveness of North America’s economies.
Since his arrival in Mexico on September 10, Ambassador Wayne has also met with the business communities in Tijuana, Guadalajara, and Ciudad Juarez (where he attended the launch of “Juarez Competitiva”).
