Ambassador Wayne meets with Automotive Sector Representatives

Ambassador Wayne met U.S. automobile manufacturers and suppliers of the automobile industry

Ambassador Wayne met October 26 with U.S. automobile manufacturers and suppliers to discuss the current state of the automobile industry in Mexico.  General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler have all made significant investments in Mexico in recent years.  Automobile production in Mexico increased 50% from 2009 to 2010, and automobile exports increased 52%. The automobile industry in Mexico is the second largest export sector in the country, accounting for 13% of all industrial jobs in Mexico.  Almost 70% of Mexico’s automobile exports went to the United States last year.  Ambassador Wayne said,  “I was very pleased to hear from such a broad group of industry leaders.  The automotive sector is one of the most important industries for both the United States and Mexico, and their success is essential.  I look forward to working together with automakers and their suppliers as we seek to create a more competitive North America.”
