U.S. Government Announces 5 Million Dollars to Support Mexico’s Efforts to Contain the Spread of H1N1 Influenza
Mexico City | April 29, 2009
The government of the United States
is providing 5 million dollars to the World Health Organization (WHO)
and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) to support Mexico’s
efforts to contain the spread of the H1N1 Influenza in Mexico.
The U.S. Government – through various entities that
include the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the
Agency for International Development (USAID) – is in close
collaboration with the Mexican health authorities, and international
organizations.
These funds will provide equipment and supplies
that will facilitate the diagnosis and treatment of people suffering by
the disease.
“The Government of Mexico, in concert with
authorities around the world, is taking strong action to contain the
spread of H1N1 influenza and assess the dangers it may pose,” said
Chargé d’Affaires Leslie Bassett. “The United States, as a neighbor
and friend, is collaborating with Mexico and the international
community to address this global concern, and the provision of $5
million to the WHO and PAHO will support those efforts.”
