This is a warden notice for American citizens.

The U.S. Embassy strongly recommends that U.S. citizens in Tamaulipas and Veracruz prepare themselves for the possibility of hurricane Dean’s landfall in those areas on Wednesday. The hurricane is expected to strengthen as it enters the Gulf of Mexico and may result in strong storm surges and flooding in the Bay of Campeche. Areas inland can expect flooding, strong winds and landslides. Follow the path of the storm closely and seek appropriate shelter or depart for a safer area at least 24 hours before the hurricane is predicted to hit.

Citizens who plan to remain despite the approaching hurricane should identify their local hurricane shelter, monitor local media reports, and follow the instructions of local emergency officials. In some areas, adequate shelter from a severe hurricane may not be available to all who may choose to stay. Visitors should review and follow their hotel or cruise ship evacuation plans.

Citizens who plan to travel to Texas to avoid the hurricane should consult the web site of the Texas Department of Transportation for important information on evacuation routes and other critical matters. That site is: http://www.dot.state.tx.us.

U.S. citizens should carry their Passports or secure them in a safe, waterproof location. Please contact friends and family in the United States with updates on your whereabouts. American consular officials are in the area and coordinating with Mexican officials to provide emergency assistance to American citizens. American citizens can contact the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City 24 hours a day at (01 55)-5080-2000. American citizens can also contact the Hurricane Dean Task Force in Washington at 1-202-647-6611.

Please stay posted for future warden messages. Thank you and stay safe
