Mexico City, May 14, 2007 — “I am saddened by the brutal murder this morning of Mr. Jose Nemesio Lugo Felix, General Coordinator of Information at the National Center for Planning & Analysis to Combat Organized Crime. A principled and tireless crime fighter, Mr. Lugo is the latest Mexican law enforcement official to have lost his life in a valiant stand against the criminals who seek to enrich themselves by destroying the very fabric of our society.
“American law enforcement officials who worked with Mr. Lugo admired him for his dedication and professionalism, and he was held in the highest regard. Mr. Lugo understood the nature of the criminal elements aligned against him, and was always looking for ways to give his officers the training and equipment they needed to give the people of Mexico the security they deserve.
“On behalf of the U.S. Mission in Mexico, I extend my deepest condolences to Mr. Lugo’s family, colleagues, and friends. It is my sincere hope that the perpetrators of this cowardly crime can be arrested and brought to justice immediately.”
