Garza awarded the U.S. company Johnson Controls the U.S. Secretary of State’s Award for Corporate Excellence in recognition of their excellent business practices and good corporate citizenship.

“Johnson Controls is receiving this award for its exemplary work in Mexico, its commitment to the environment, and to the Mexican workers who have made its success possible,” said Ambassador Garza. “Johnson Controls’ commitment to Mexico includes supporting two orphanages in Reynosa and sponsorship of annual drives to collect Christmas toys, back-to-school supplies, and clothing for the under-privileged. Employees in Cuidad Juarez help elementary and junior high schools with building maintenance and office supplies. And as part of their ‘Adopt a School’ program, Johnson Controls assists a day care center and donates maintenance services and equipment to an area school. In Tlaxcala, Johnson Controls employees teach basic computer skills to employee family members, repaves roads, trains kindergarten teachers in emergency planning, and donates fire extinguishers to local schools.”
