Mexico City, December 9, 2005 – “As we commemorate the meaning of International Human Rights Day, the United States and Mexico must not forget the untold number of victims of the abhorrent practice of trafficking in persons. We must renew our commitment to the victims and their families, and bring those responsible for so much misery to justice,” said Ambassador Antonio O. Garza, Jr.
In recognition of the key role the United States played in creating the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948, and our continued commitment to uphold the promise of that important document, Ambassador Garza urged the people of Mexico to review the progress we have made in our effort to end this form of modern day slavery, and to think of how we can do more to prevent the exploitation of the most vulnerable members of our two societies.
