Gary Edward Lasher Will Face Justice in the United States

Mexico City, October 13, 2005 —The arrest and deportation of Gary Edward Lasher once again underscores our joint commitment to ensure that no criminal finds sanctuary in either the United States or Mexico.

Until his arrest in Playa del Carmen, Mexico on October 12, Gary Edward Lasher was one of America’s most wanted fugitives. Lasher is wanted by authorities in Los Angeles, California, for kidnapping for ransom. He has also been charged with child molestation, spousal abuse, and possession of child pornography. FBI agents, working with their counterparts in Mexico, learned that Lasher was living in Playa del Carmen and teaching various types of water sports classes. Mexican authorities arrested Lasher for immigration law violations and he was deported to the United States yesterday. Lasher is presently being held by the FBI in McAllen, Texas.
