Mexico City, September 22, 2005. - Secretary for Public Security Ramón Martín Huerta was a devoted public servant who perished while serving the country he loved. He understood the dangers posed by drug kingpins and criminals, and worked tirelessly to make Mexico safe. Secretary Huerta enjoyed the admiration and respect of his American counterparts, who held him in the highest regard. On behalf of the United States, I extend my condolences to the family of Secretary Huerta and to the families of the public servants who lost their lives yesterday in the service of their country. Their sacrifice will not be forgotten.
