Mexico City, September 2, 2005 — “In the wake of the worst natural disaster to strike the United States in more than a century, the American people are grateful for the expression of sympathy and condolences that we continue to receive from the people of Mexico,” said U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Tony Garza. “We welcome your assistance and I have information for those of you who would like to help.
“The United States has mobilized its full resources to rescue and bring aid and comfort to the millions of Americans and foreign nationals, whose lives have been put in peril by Hurricane Katrina. I appreciate the messages of sympathy and support from the people of Mexico, many of whom have family members and friends in the affected region.
“The American people will welcome your support. For those of you who wish to make a donation, kindly review the list of relief agencies that are involved in rescue efforts in the region affected by Hurricane Katrina: http://www.fema.gov/press/2005/katrinadonations.shtm.
“The American Red Cross (http://www.redcross.org) is mobilizing its resources, and will be taking inquiries from those outside the disaster area. You can also call this number for information on shelters that have been set up.
“The Salvation Army Team Emergency Radio Network: This network takes inquiries and sends them to the disaster area, where Salvation Army personnel will attempt to locate the person or persons about whom you are inquiring.
