“The United States and Mexico are continuing their commitment to diagnose, treat and cure tuberculosis,” said U.S. Ambassador Tony Garza. “Working together and with a sustained focus, we will be successful. ”
Ambassador Garza and Veracruz Secretary of Health Mauro Loyo launched a new phase in the US/Mexico bilateral collaborative tuberculosis (TB) program today with a donation by the United States government of $176, 000 worth of TB control equipment to the state of Veracruz. The donation includes computers, laboratory equipment, training materials and a vehicle for the control and treatment of the disease. The event was hosted by the Veracruz State Laboratory of Public Health.
Participating in the ceremony were federal and state Mexican health officials and collaborators. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has a unique government-to- government agreement with Mexico’s Secretariat of Health to control TB. The Veracruz donation is part of a broader national program of cooperation between the US and Mexico involving 13 states that will receive equipment.
