U.S. Citizen Services

The American Citizen Services (ACS) section of the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City offers a varied menu of services. Please select the service you require, follow all instructions, and make an appointment if necessary. If you are outside Mexico's City Consular District, please contact your nearest Consulate or Consular Agency.

Due to a consular systems upgrade, consular operations at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City and all nine consulates throughout Mexico will be closed to the public on Friday, October 9th. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.  U.S. citizens requiring emergency assistance should call 5080-2000

UPDATE:  Delays in Passport Processing

Due to a worldwide systems issue, passport operations at the U.S. Embassy and consulates throughout Mexico experienced processing delays during summer 2015.  These issues have largely been resolved and passport processing has returned to normal.  However, some cases remain delayed and the U.S. Embassy is working to resolve these cases as quickly as possible; we estimate that all backlogged passports will be delivered by November 15, 2015.  If you applied for and were approved a U.S. passport at the U.S. Embassy between May 2015 and August 2015 and have not received your document, you can contact the Embassy through our public email address to request information on the status of your document.  If you applied for a passport during this time frame, have not received your document, and have travel plans within the next 10 business days, please consider requesting an emergency passport.  Information about how to apply for an emergency passport is available at the following link

Come to renew your child’s passport without an appointment! Simply come to the Embassy  any day we are open (see our Consular Calendar)  between 1:30-2:30 pm ONLY (you must enter the Embassy by 2:30 pm) and you will NOT need to schedule an appointment!
