"Mr. Amigo 2006" award is presented to actress/singer Lucero during ceremony at Ambassador Garza's residence
On January 3, 2007, the official residence of the U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, Tony Garza, was the setting for delegations from Brownsville, Texas, and Matamoros, Tamaulipas, to present the "Mr. Amigo 2006" award to actress and singer Lucero in honor of her distinguished career as a performer, and her constant willingness to contribute to altruistic causes.

The ceremony to present the "Mr. Amigo" award was presided by Leslie Bassett, Deputy Chief of the U.S. Mission, in Ambassador Garza's name.

DCM Bassett addressed the group. Lucero, this year's honoree, was in the front row, as was Lolita Ayala, last year's recipient.

Lucero and the members of the Mr. Amigo Association board, including its Chairperson Mrs. Sylvia L. Perez; local congressman Salomon Ortiz; representatives of the cities of Brownsville and Matamoros; Cecilia Herrera, U.S. Consul in Matamoros; and Victor Manuel TreviƱo, Mexican Consul in Brownsville.
