While in Oaxaca, Amb. Garza observes results of assistance programs

“The U.S. Government is pleased to continue cooperation with the Oaxaca Government on programs related to economic and social development," said Ambassador Garza during his visit to the city of Oaxaca on June 16, 2005.

"We are proud to support the efforts of the government of the state, as well as those of civil society in terms of judicial reform. We are also working with the local government and environmental, health and educational institutions,” said Ambassador Garza before Oaxaca Governor Ulises Ruiz Ortiz.

Along with Governor Ulises Ruiz, Ambassador Garza also announced the launch of the Rural Prosperity Fund, a U.S. Government initiative to support economic growth with an emphasis on environmental protection.

“I am proud to announce that the people of the United States have created a new source of support through the Rural Prosperity Fund of one million dollars over the next three years,” said the Ambassador. Alberto Mijangos, Chairman of NGO "Technical Committee on Underground Water in the Central Valleys of Oaxaca," left, receives the certificate naming his organization as one of the first grantees of the Fund.
