Ambassador Garza Greets Young Student
on Her Way to Washington D.C.

“Violeta Hernandez is a remarkable young girl who has already demonstrated strong leadership qualities. This week she’ll travel to Washington D.C. at the invitation of Secretary of Education Rod Paige,” said Ambassador Garza. “We’re delighted that Violeta will visit the U.S. now, and hope that she’ll be part of an educational exchange program in the future.”

Secretary of Education Rod Paige met Violeta Hernandez, a young student at the Benito Juarez School during his first trip to the Mexico in 2002. Then in the third grade, Violeta was chosen to welcome the Secretary on behalf of the student body, and her articulate remarks impressed him. Last month they met again when Secretary Paige attended the Binational Commission meetings, and at that time he invited Violeta and her mother to visit Washington D. C.

The morning of December 1 Ambassador Garza greeted Violeta and her mother following their visa appointment.
