Ambassador Takes Part in Two Events for the Benefit of Mexican Children

Ambassador Garza Lauds Donation to Casa de la Amistad para Niños con Cáncer

"This generous gift of cancer drugs from the American National Cancer Coalition means that hundreds of seriously ill children will now have a chance for survival,” U.S. Ambassador Tony Garza said on July 29 on a visit to the Casa de la Amistad para Niños con Cancer.

Recently the American National Cancer Coalition donated USD$620,000 of life-saving cancer drugs to the medicine bank of the Casa de la Amistad. The 620 kits of powerful cancer medication are normally out of reach for most cancer patients in Mexico and are the first donation from an American foundation to the Casa de la Amistad

“The medicine bank and shelter program that Casa de la Amistad operates represents hope and support for thousands of children and their families from throughout Mexico,” added Ambassador Garza.

Ambassador Garza Welcomes "Amiguitos de Bellas Artes"

On July 29, Ambassador Garza hosted a group of "Amiguitos de Bellas Artes" – young art lovers who are taking a summer course with Mexico’s Institute of Fine Arts – for a tour of the art collection at his residence.

"I'm always happy to meet with children and young people. It gives me great pleasure to have the "Amiguitos de Bellas Artes" come over today for me to show them the collection and talk to them about the importance of art for our two nations," said Garza.

" Amiguitos de Bellas Artes" is a program run by the non-profit organization "Amigos de Bellas Artes" with the objective of bringing children closer to the artistic activities of the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA) to round out their development.

"Due to the fact that the residence is not open to the public for visits, we are planning several guided tours, so that children and young people in particular who are interested in art can also see the collection" he concluded.
