Ambassador Garza Showcases Contemporary Art

On June 1, 2004, Ambassador Garza hosted a reception at his home to present over fifty contemporary American and Mexican artworks assembled from various collections throughout the country.

Among the artwork displayed at the Ambassador's home are works by American artists Chuck Close, Helen Frankenthaler, Robert Longo and Robert Rauschenberg. Thomas Glassford, a long-time resident of Mexico is also featured. Among the many Mexican artists whose works are displayed are Gabriel Orozco, Irma Palacios, Juan Soriano and Rufino Tamayo.

"I wanted the collection to reflect the dynamism and convergence of U.S.-Mexican relations. I feel the outstanding works on display do just that" said Amb. Garza

"These works of art express the quality, diversity and shared values found in American and Mexican art and culture. Thanks to the generosity of the artists and these important Mexican collectors, I have the great pleasure of sharing this collection of contemporary art with my guests," adds U.S. Ambassador Tony Garza

"One of the great joys in life is discovering new areas that bring richness and meaning to your life. I've been lucky to discover-and to fall in love with-Mexico and its art. I love the vibrancy, the ambiguity and the intensity of contemporary art. I am privileged and honored to be able to bring great Mexican art into my home," concluded U.S. Ambassador Tony Garza.
