Celebrate World Tuberculosis Day

In recognition of World Tuberculosis Day, U.S. Ambassador Tony Garza and Mexico's Secretary of Health Julio Frenk attended a ceremony on March 22, 2004, at the National Institute of Respiratory Diseases in Tlalpan, Mexico City, during which Ambassador Garza presented $3 million in USAID-funded tuberculosis control equipment to Secretary Frenk. USAID will provide US $16 million dollars in assistance and equipment over the entire life of the project (2000- 2006).

Said Ambassador Garza: “This unique tuberculosis control program, administered by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), is an example of sustained cooperation with the Mexican health sector to achieve a better quality of life for its citizens.”
