In a ceremony held in Guadalajara on January 21st, the United States Forest Service donated more than 20,000 fire suits to Mexico’s National Forest Commission (CONAFOR). Ambassador Garza presented the equipment to CONAFOR’s Director General Manuel Reed Segovia. Fire resistant pants are part of the safety uniforms used by all wild land fire fighters in the United States. The protective gear has an estimated value of over US$1.2 million.
“Fires threaten both the United States and Mexico because they cost
lives and destroy property and valuable resources,” said U.S. Ambassador
Tony Garza. “The brave Mexican men and women who fight forest fires
will be safer because of this donation.”
